STORY

In 2019, Lucas Koenecke turned his passion for fitness and neuro-centric training into a mission. After years of exploring the impact of neurology-based training and innovative product design, Lucas saw an opportunity to advance the way athletes and rehabilitation professionals approach movement and performance. With guidance from Dr. Eric Cobb, Founder of Z-Health® Performance Solutions, Lucas developed a vision for creating neuro-centric tools that challenge the limitations of traditional training.

He founded The Maverick Gym to bring that vision to life, debuting The Maverick, a tool designed to support a smarter, science-based approach to athletic performance and rehabilitation.Today, The Maverick serves a growing community of athletes, coaches, and therapists dedicated to improving movement through neuro-centric training.

Founder’s Vision: Lucas envisioned a training tool that brings neurology to the forefront of athleticism, reshaping how the body and mind connect in high-performance fitness.

The science

The Icosahedron: Precision Geometry for Peak Performance

The unique icosahedron design of The Maverick is inspired by Rudolf Laban’s theory of movement analysis. Laban, a pioneer in movement science, believed the icosahedron—a twenty-sided geometric figure—was closely aligned with the structure and movement potential of the human body. He observed that the angles and proportions of the icosahedron matched the body’s natural range and pathways, making it an ideal framework for exploring movement.

How it works

Multi-Planar Movement

The Maverick’s icosahedron design provides varied angles, guiding users through three-dimensional movements. This optimizes spatial awareness and engages muscles across multiple planes, enhancing full-body strength and stability.

Target Training (External Focus)

Each point on The Maverick offers specific targets that encourage external focus. This approach sharpens mental engagement and reinforces neuromuscular coordination, helping athletes enhance reflexes and precision under unpredictable conditions.

Vision & Vestibular Training

By incorporating visual and vestibular cues, The Maverick strengthens an athlete’s ability to process visual information and maintain balance. This is key for improving dynamic stability and enhancing situational awareness in high-stakes environments.

Dynamic Strength

The Maverick supports the development of functional, adaptable strength through dynamic, multi-directional exercises. This promotes balanced muscle activation, injury prevention, and resilience under unpredictable loads.

Cognitive Conditioning

Integrating cognitive challenges with physical movement, The Maverick enhances decision-making speed, reaction time, and mental agility. This fusion of physical and cognitive training is essential for peak performance in competitive and high-pressure scenarios.
